Our chemistry department decided to require this book so that they wouldn't have to write the minutiae of all the procedures in the lab manual. Instead, they just reference the associated procedure in the manual.But the lab instructors still have to cover the minutiae of the procedures because Zubrick causes more confusion that he does clarity. After attempting to do something the way he describes it, I discover there is a much easier way to do it.On top of this, Zubrick spends more time trying to be funny so that students will think he's their friend, than he does adequately explaining the procedures for a technique.So, if this book is required for your course, do yourself a favor and find a used copy of a previous edition. If enough people stop buying the new editions, maybe they will stop publishing this title.
This book is suprisingly funny for an org chem lab manual. This is an older version but it doesn't even differ in page number than the new versions. Save your money and go with this guy!
I am a student at Purdue University, this book was required for my CHM 25501 and it is honestly the most helpful book ever! Each week there were assigned chapters pertaining to the lab techniques required for the lab. The writing style is not like most text books, it's more playful. It has everything you could possibly need to know for an Organic Chemistry lab. I rented this book for the semester but I plan on buying it because I definitely think I'll be referencing it further down the road.

There are many O-Chem lab "handbooks" but Zubrick's books are amazing (he has several editions). He speaks plainly and simply, straight forward without the unnecessary flourishes of excess jargon. An amazing resource for first year and even high division organic chemistry students.
This is now my favorite text book ever, the writer injects a sense of humor to what could be some very boring procedures. Reading this book is not only helpful in the lab but the authors tone makes you look forward to reading the next chapter. Must buy for all organic chemistry students
This book has already been a great help in my organic chem lab. It's perfect for learning techniques and understanding the concepts behind them.The reason I didn't give it give stars is because I wish it had more information on NMR spectroscopy results and how to interpret them.
